The winter months can be incredibly trying. From a lack of sunlight to increase our levels of vitamin D to mourning loved ones who we have recently lost, the holiday’s truly can be a difficult time of year. If you have found yourself struggling during these recent months and are seeking a form of healing, whether mentally, physically, or emotionally, this is the spell for you. You only need a few ingredients. This spell works with the white light of a candle to cleanse you of illness, grief, and anything else you are struggling with, while the herbs heal and protect your energy. This spell may appear simple, but it is extremely effective.
Candle magick is quite literally the most simple and highly effective form of spell work that you can accomplish. These types of spells do not require a ton of supplies, and the vast majority of the items that you need can quickly and easily be tracked down at your local supermarket or grocery store. In other words, candle spells are the perfect kind of spells for beginner witches and also for those witches who find themselves on a tight budget.
What You Will Need
A white candle (chime, tealight, or another style)
Small piece of paper
Chamomile (this can be found in the tea aisle)
Eucalyptus (essential oil can be used if you can’t find the actual herb)
Mint or Peppermint (oil can also be used here)
How to Cast the Spell
As is the case with any spell, you are going to need to calm and clear your mind and set your intentions for the spell and what you are trying to attain. Smudge your altar space or another work area where you will be casting the spell and simply take the time to sit quietly with yourself, meditate and reflect.
Next, take your white candle and blend or grind together the rosemary, chamomile, eucalyptus, and peppermint. Next, take a small amount of the herbs and sprinkle them in a circle around the candle. Write your name on a piece of paper three times, turn the paper over and write “healing” three times (perpendicular to your name on the reverse side). Fold the paper in half toward you and place it underneath the candle.
Light your candle and begin to envision healing energy flowing through your body from the white light. Recite the following (or your own affirmation that calls to you):
White light, shining bright,
Bring me healing on this night.
May magick mend
as the candle burns,
Sickness will end
And good health will return.
This can be repeated as many times as you feel necessary.
It is important to note that these words can be altered to fit the state of your issue. For instance, you can replace sickness with “depression,” and good health with “mental health,” etc. The beauty of witchcraft is that there is no right or wrong way to do things. Allow the magick to work with and through you. It is yours, and yours alone.
The Next Steps
As the candle begins to melt, you can opt to meditate, sit with your thoughts, or even do a journaling exercise where you write down what has been troubling you. Think of this as a way of eliminating all of the pressing issues that are weighing you down and, in turn, are trapping them on the page.
The next step is to take the piece of paper and burn it using the candle flame. Please exercise fire safety when doing this. You can burn the paper to burn in a fire-safe cauldron or another fire-safe container. When the paper has burned and the flame and embers are completely extinguished, add in the herbs that surrounded your candle, and toss all of the ashes to the wind. Allow nature to carry your pain and strife away from you. Snuff out the candle (do not blow it out) to conclude your spell. Again, how you close the session is completely up to you, but make sure that you thank your spirit guides (angels, gods/goddesses, or ancestors).
